„Wir leben in einer Demokratie“, wird gesagt. Aber was heißt das? Die politische Philosophie der Gegenwart hat eine Reihe von Demokratie-Konzeptionen entwickelt, und eine Aufgabe des Seminars wird sein, sie zu klären, zu vergleichen und zu prüfen. Doch umstritten ist nicht nur, was Demokratie ist, sondern auch, ob Demokratie oder speziell die Art von Demokratie, die wir haben, eine gute Sache ist. Brauchen wir mehr direkte Demokratie? Zeigen die populistischen Bewegungen, dass das Volk sich in den politischen Institutionen nicht mehr repräsentiert sieht? Brauchen Demokratien ein Gefühl der Zusammengehörigkeit? Haben wir ein Recht auf Demokratie? Auf solche Fragen wird das Seminar ebenfalls zu antworten versuchen.
