Kindertageseinrichtungen sind öffentliche Einrichtungen, in denen sich Kinder stundenweise, einen Teil des Tages oder ganztägig aufhalten. Gleichzeitig sind Kindertageseinrichtungen das größte Arbeitsfeld der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe und werden von unterschiedlichen Trägern betrieben.
Die Einführung des Rechtanspruchs auf einen Kindergartenplatz für jedes Kind ab dem ersten Lebensjahr (2013) wurde durch eine Diskussion über Vor- und Nachteile der Kindertagesbetreuung begleitet.
In diesem Seminar soll die Bedeutung der Kindertageseinrichtung für Kinder, Familien und Sozialraum thematisiert werden. Gleichzeitig sollen Veränderungen der Kindertageseinrichtung- der Alltag der Kinder und die pädagogische Arbeit- in der aktuellen Diskussion und ihrer Entwicklung aufgezeigt werden.

Anhand von vorhandenen und recherchierten Texten sollen die Sitzungen vorbereitet werden. Eine aktive Mitgestaltung in Form von Diskussionen und eigenen Beiträgen ist eine weitere wichtige Voraussetzung.
Prüfungsleistungen können in Form einer Hausarbeit oder einer mündlichen Gestaltung erbracht werden. Eine Studienleistung kann in Form eines Inputs oder eines Protokolls erfolgen. Weitere Möglichkeiten werden in der ersten Sitzung bekannt gegeben.
