Was ist Liebe? Ein 'Gefühl' oder ein 'Code'? Ein 'Kulturmedium' oder ein 'Sinnmuster subjektiver Selbstverwaltung'? Ausgehend von aktuellen Methodendebatten über das Phänomen Liebe, unternimmt das Seminar, das von einer Historischen Kontextualisierung begleitet wird, im ersten Teil den Versuch, den Wandel der Vorstellungen von Liebe im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert zu entfalten und zu analysieren. Kommt es zu einem „Wandel der Intimität“ (Giddens, 2006) ? Weitet sich die Kluft zwischen überhöhtem Liebesideal und eingeschränkten Realisierungsmöglichkeiten (Beck/Gernsheim 1990) aus? Widersetzt sich die romantische Liebe den Prinzipien von Markt und Ökonomie oder wird die kollektive Liebensutopie zum bevorzugten Ort des kapitalistischen Konsums (Illouz 2003)? Was bedeutet Polyamorie? Im Zentrum des zweiten Teils steht die Rekonstruktion der Liebeskonzeptionen ausgewählter Frauen und Männer: u.a. Alma Mahler-Werfel, Max Weber & Else Jaffé-von Richthofen, Jean-Paul Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir, Klaus & Erika Mann, Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
