Das Seminar dient der Einführung in das heterogene Forschungsfeld der Mediensoziologie. Hierzu werden zentrale mediensoziologische Perspektiven (Kritische Theorie, Systemtheorie sowie handlungs- und praxistheoretische Ansätze) vorgestellt und diskutiert. Anhand einschlägiger Texte sollen deren spezifische Charakteristika und Problembezüge herausgearbeitet und verglichen werden. Dies geschieht anhand folgender Leitfragen, die an die jeweiligen Ansätze gestellt werden:
• Was sind Medien?
• Worin unterscheiden sich Medien?
• Wie ist das Verhältnis zwischen Medien und Gesellschaft zu begreifen?
• Was tun Medien mit Menschen?
• Was tun Menschen mit Medien?
