Das Seminar führt in die allgemeinen Grundlagen einer Theorie sozialer Felder ein. Im Fokus steht dabei die Bourdieusche Variante der Feldtheorie, die sich ausdrücklich in eine differenzierungstheoretische Tradition einschreibt, die relative Autonomie und Eigenlogik spezifischer Felder als Orte der Auseinandersetzung um die Definition legitimer Praxis betont und Ausarbeitungen zum Feld der Kunst, der Wissenschaft, der Politik, der Religion usw. vorlegt. Zugleich interessieren aber auch andere Varianten der Feldtheorie, etwa in den Fassungen von Neil Fligstein und Doug McAdam oder des organisationssoziologischen Neo-Institutionalismus. Im Seminar soll es darum gehen, die heuristischen Vorteile und Nachteile in der empirischen Analyse zu beleuchten, die aus den begrifflichen Grundentscheidungen dieser Theoriemodelle hervorgehen, und diese gerade auch gegenüber anderen Gesellschaftstheorien, etwa der Systemtheorie, ins Profil zu setzen.
