Familienpolitik, also die staatliche Bereitstellung von Geld, Zeit und sozialen Diensten zur Sicherung der Funktionsfähigkeit von Familien sowie der Vereinbarkeit von Care- und Erwerbsarbeit, wurde in den letzten Jahrzenten in den Wohlfahrtsstaaten der OECD massiv ausgeweitet. Im Zentrum stand dabei vor allem die Erleichterung der Arbeitsmarktintegration von Müttern. Dies wird häufig unter dem Konzept der Defamilisierung besprochen. Dieses lenkt den Blick der Wohlfahrtsstaatforschung weg von einer Perspektive, die einen männlichen Alleinverdiener in den Fokus nimmt, zu einer, die gegenderte Aspekte wie die innerfamilärer Arbeitsteilung hervorhebt.
Das Seminar gliedert sich in drei Teile. Im ersten Teil soll es um Konzepte wie beispielsweise ‚Defamilisierung‘ und ‚Familisierung‘, ihre Güte sowie Varianten gehen. Der zweite Teil fokussiert sich auf mögliche Datenquellen zur Bearbeitung familienpolitischer Fragestellungen in vergleichender Perspektive. Dabei wird ein Fokus auf Datenbeschaffung und -aufbereitung gelegt. Im dritten Teil des Seminars werden quantitative Analyseverfahren im Hinblick auf die Beschreibung (beispielsweise Clusteranalysen) und Erklärung (z.B. Time-Series-Cross Section oder Event-History Models) historischer wie nationaler Unterschiede behandelt und erprobt.
Als Analyse-Software wird Stata genutzt, falls von den Teilnehmenden explizit gewünscht, kann aber auch R genutzt werden.
Grundkenntnisse in Stata oder R werden vorausgesetzt. Die Datenaufbereitung nimmt einen wesentlichen Teil des Seminars ein.
