Arbeit und Kapitalismus sind Schlüsselkategorien der Gesellschaftskritik. Von einigen Autoren wird jedoch seit längerem problematisiert, dass diese seit den 1970er Jahren vernachlässigt wurden und nur wenig wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit erhalten haben. Als Ursachen dafür gelten die antiproduktivistische Wende und die Rede vom Ende bzw. der Krise der Arbeitsgesellschaft. Ziel des Seminars ist es, aktuelle Beiträge der Arbeitssoziologie zur Analyse der Gesellschaft kennenzulernen und kritisch zu diskutieren. Dabei sollen gesellschaftswissenschaftliche Theorien und Konzepte mit den Ergebnissen arbeitssoziologischer Forschung verknüpft werden. Zu den hier behandelten Aspekten von Arbeit zählen z.B. ihre Prekarisierung, Internationalisierung und Industrialisierung sowie die die geschlechtliche Arbeitsteilung.
