„Fremd ist der Fremde nur in der Fremde“, meint der Wortkünstler Karl Valentin. Allein an diesem Zitat – und an vielen anderen Zitaten über das Fremde – erkennt man das Paradoxe am Fremden, das sich folglich auch in den Studien darüber zu erkennen gibt. Eine Reihe von philosophischen und soziologischen Studien hat sich bereits dieses Themas angenommen. Literatur bildet hierbei keine Ausnahme. So setzt sich das Seminar zur Aufgabe, einerseits einen Einblick in die Forschung über das Fremde aus der literaturwissenschaftlichen Perspektive zu geben, und andererseits sich mit Texten aus der Gegenwartsliteratur auseinanderzusetzen, welche die Variabilität, das Kultur- und Geschlechtsspezifische des Fremden thematisieren.

1. Grundkenntnisse literarischen Analyseverfahrens werden zur Teilnahme am Seminar vorausgesetzt.
2. Eine aktive Teilname zum Erweb eines (un-)benoteten Leistungsnachweis ist erforderlich.
3. Ein unbenoteter Leistungsnachweis wird durch ein Referat und durch ein Essay im Umfang von 1000 Wörtern erzielt. Das Thema für das Referat und das Thema für das Essay werden in Absprache mit dem Seminarleiter ausgewählt.
4. Ein benoteter Leistungsnachweis wird durch ein Referat und durch eine schriftliche Hausarbeit erzielt. Das Thema für das Referat und das Thema für die Hausarbeit werden in Absprache mit dem Seminarleiter ausgewählt.
5. Es wird ein "Wegweiser durch das Seminar' bereit gestellt, in dem die notwendigen Informationen und die Einzelheiten über eine erfolgreiche Teilnahme am Semniar jederzeit nachgelesen werden können.
