In its influential definition by Deacon (2007), global social policy consists of global social redistribution, rights and regulation. This seminar concentrates on the latter aspect of regulation, but compares this dimension with the other two "R’s" of global social policy.
We address several questions:
- What is the meaning of global social regulation, and how can we theoretically grasp it?
- What is the relationship of global social regulation with global social redistribution and rights?
- How does regulation empirically figure in global social governance? What are its main actors (we concentrate on the World Bank, the ILO and the WHO)? What are the main policy fields of global social regulation (we concentrate on pension policy, poverty, labor, and trade)?

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
