Im Seminar werden ausgewählte Texte von Christoph Martin Wieland (1733-1813) gelesen und diskutiert. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die 'Einbildungskraft', die nach 1750 zu einem der „Leitbegriffe der Aufklärungsepoche“ (Dürbeck) avanciert und (nicht nur) ästhetische und kunsttheoretische Debatten wesentlich mitbestimmt.
Am Beispiel Wielands sollen Einblicke in die Literatur der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts vermittelt und auch literatur-/kulturtheoretisch interessierte Fragestellungen diskutiert werden. Dabei sollen sich Wielands Texte nicht nur als klug und elegant, sondern auch heute noch als unterhaltsam und absolut lebensrelevant erweisen.
Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende, die gewillt sind, historische wie aktuelle Texte zu lesen, um einen Autor im Kontext seiner Zeit kennenzulernen. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht nötig, eine regelmäßige Teilnahme und die Bereitschaft, auch einmal einen längeren Text zu lesen, allerdings schon.
