300551 Relational inequality (MA Sozialstruktur und soziale Ungleichheit) (S) (SoSe 2024)

Contents, comment

Inequalities prevail regarding many valuable resources like money, status, and power. How do inequalities emerge, and why do they persist? In this seminar, we will learn about the sociological perspective of inequality beyond individual factors like skills or effort. We will discuss inequalities across gender, race, class, and other social categories and explore how social processes like exploitation, stereotyping, social influence, opportunity hoarding, segregation, and discrimination cause inequalities. Moreover, we will investigate how inequalities emerge in organizations and workplaces.
