Der Schwerpunkt der Veranstaltung liegt auf dem Experimentieren/Präparieren und dem Einsatz von Pflanzen und Tieren im Unterricht. In der Veranstaltung wird anschlussfähiges fachdidaktisches Wissen vermittelt, das fächerübergreifendes Lehren ermöglicht. Unter Berücksichtigung der curricularen Vorgaben werden Biologiestunden geplant und mit den Studierenden innerhalb der Kurse durchgeführt, analysiert und reflektiert. Die Vermittlung der unterrichtspraktischen Kompetenzen erfolgt nach dem aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisstand. Die Studierenden werden vertraut gemacht mit grundlegenden Arbeits- und Erkenntnismethoden im Fach Biologie. Nach Studienabschluss verfügen sie über basale Fähigkeiten für gezielte und nach wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen gestaltete Vermittlungs-, Lern- und Bildungsprozesse.
Durch den Exkursionsanteil erhalten die Studierenden Einblick in die Arbeit an außerschulischen Lernorten.
