In den letzten 30 Jahren war die Öffentliche Verwaltung, private Firmen und Individuen gleichermaßen einer (Selbst)Evaluierungs- und Transparenzwelle ausgesetzt, die nicht unwesentlich auf Quantifizierung von Leistungen, Merkmalen oder Erwartungen gründete. Die Soziologie bietet einige Erklärungsansätze (‚Critical accounting’, kommunikationstheoretische Ansätze, Neo-Institutionalismus) von Funktion und Folgen der Quantifizierung an, die in diesem Seminar vorgestellt, eingeordnet und gegeneinander abgewogen werden.
Das Ziel dieses Seminars ist einen ersten Überblick über die Literatur zur Quantifizierung und damit über das Phänomen selbst zu erlangen. Es werden einführende Texte und Fallstudien gelesen, die Studierende in die Lage versetzen sollen, Quantifizierung als soziologisches Problem zu erkennen und diskutieren.
