Unter dem Oberbegriff der "Historischen Epistemologie" werden eine Reihe von Forschungsansätzen zusammengefaßt, die den historischen Wandel nicht nur von Theorien, sondern auch von Forschungs- und Erkenntnispraktiken und Erkenntniskategorien betrachten; die Historische Epistemologie versucht, Wissenschaftsgeschichte und Wissenschaftsphilosophie in einen fruchtbaren Kontakt miteinander zu bringen und ihr Verhältnis klarer zu verstehen.

Im Seminar sollen einerseits Klassiker, andererseits neue Ansätze gelesen und diskutiert werden. Behandelt werden u.a. Schriften von Ludwik Fleck, Thomas S. Kuhn, Gaston Bachelard, Philip Kitcher, Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, Gerald Holton und Hasok Chang.
