Im Zentrum jeder Vorlesungsstunde steht ein Artefakt,ein Kodex, ein Fresko, ein Grundriss, ein Gebäude, eine Münze usw., aus dem sich exemplarisch ein zentraler Aspekt des gegenwärtigen Mittelalterbildes entwickeln lässt. Die Vorlesung bietet also keine chronologisch durchlaufende Erzählung, sondern stellt in jeder Stunde das ausgewählte Artefakt in eine langfristig diachrone Perspektive.
Da Sie keine Einführung in die Ereignisgeschichte erhalten werden, sollten Sie sich eine grobe Vorstellung von der ereignisgeschichtlichen Periodisierung des Mittelalter anlesen.
