Für eine Datenerhebung (z. B. Befragung) ausgewählte Personen können ihre Teilnahme an der gesamten Datenerhebung ebenso verweigern wie "lediglich" die Beantwortung einzelner Fragen. Dies kann im schlechteste Fall z. B. dazu führen, dass eine Stichprobe nicht mehr repräsentativ für die entsprechende Grundgesamtheit ist oder statistisch geschätzte Koeffizienten sehr verzerrt sind. Nonresponse kann deshalb durchaus ähnlich wie etwa soziale Erwünschtheit im Antwortverhalten ein substanzielles Problem bei empirischen Analysen darstellen.
In diesem Seminar erarbeiten wir uns zunächst einen konzeptionellen Überblick über die verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen von Nonresponse. Ein zweiter Fokus liegt auf der Rekonstruktion von Erklärungsansätzen für Nonresponse. Daraus entwickeln wir im dritten Schritt Hypothesen zur Erklärung von Nonresponse, die wir im vierten Schritt anhand quantitativer empirischer Daten statistisch prüfen.
