Interdisciplinary education
The degree programme combines literature, cultural and media studies with linguistic and historical approaches. This interdisciplinary perspective enables students to gain a comprehensive understanding of Spanish and Latin American cultures and their literary and historical contexts.

Comprehensive language skills
Students acquire a sound knowledge of the Spanish language in the areas of oral and written production as well as listening and reading comprehension through practical tutorials (in connection with lecture/seminar). These language skills are crucial for successful appointments, especially in an international context.

International experience
The degree programme provides for a stay of several months in a Spanish-speaking country, which can be designed as a study visit, internship or foreign language assistant. This experience promotes students' linguistic and intercultural skills and prepares them optimally for the challenges of a globalised working environment.

Academically reflective debate
Students are enabled to engage in an independent and academically reflective dialogue with Hispanophone cultures, literatures and media. This ability is important in order to understand and analyse current issues of intercultural coexistence.
There are particularly good job prospects in primary schools, secondary schools, comprehensive schools, and elementary schools, as well as in integrated special education. There is also a high demand for teachers in STEM subjects (with the exception of biology). Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that you will be teaching this material for a long time. You should therefore be interested in what you teach and study subjects that you are passionate about.Considering the age of the students in the respective school types is also helpful when making this decision.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Approval for certain modules requires proof of linguistic aptitude in the form of knowledge at level B1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages". Proof should be provided by means of a language test.

Course start

Studies can be commenced in both winter and summer semesters. Courses are targeted to commencing studies in winter semester. Student counselling to plan the course of studies is recommended.

The studies Major Subject (Advanced Secondary and Comprehensive Schools ('Gymnasium' and 'Gesamtschule')) Spanish comprise 90 credit points.

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements.

Please note that Education Sciences is always a compulsory component of a degree programme with a teaching option (see study structure model) and therefore necessarily requires an application for a study place.
