Die Definition der klassischen Zahlbereiche ausgehend von den natürlichen Zahlen ist ein mathematischer Standardstoff. Einige Stufen des Aufbaus des Zahlensystems werden von allen Schülern und Schülerinnen im Laufe ihrer Schulzeit mehr oder weniger bewusst und exakt nachvollzogen. Für Lehrer und Lehrerinnen, die dieses steuern sollen, ist deshalb eine gründliche Kenntnis des theoretischen Hintergrundes und die Beherrschung der zugehörigen Mathematik unumgänglich. Darüber hinaus soll die Behandlung einfacher kombinatorischer und algebraischer Probleme gemeistert werden.
