Gegenwartsdiagnosen haben in der Soziologie eine lange Tradition: Moderne, Industriegesellschaft, kapitalistische Gesellschaft. Der jeweils so bezeichneten Gesellschaft dienen diese Diagnosen als Bezugspunkte zur Selbstverständigung über die jeweilige gesellschaftliche Identität, innerhalb des Fachs Soziologie sind sie Schauplatz des Aufeinandertreffens diverser Theorieangebote. Die momentan erfolgreichste und am stärksten verbreitete Gegenwartsdiagnose ist ‚Wissensgesellschaft’.
Im Rahmen dieses Seminars sollen verschiedene Theorieangebote zur ‚Wissensgesellschaft’ gesichtet werden. Neben der Prüfung der analytischen Leistungsfähigkeit solcher Zeitdiagnosen ist es Ziel des Seminars, wesentliche soziologische Theorieangebote kennenzulernen und sie an diesem Anwendungsfall vergleichend zu diskutieren.

Von den Studierenden wird eine aktive Beteiligung erwartet. Hierzu zählen regelmäßige Anwesenheit, Vor- und Nachbereitung der Literatur und die Mitarbeit in Kleingruppen während der Präsenzzeit im Seminar.
