392274 ISY Project: Speech Interaction enabled Mobile Robot (SIeMoR) (Pj) (SoSe 2017)

Contents, comment

- Short Description:

Speech Interaction currently is a big thing and combined with cloud-based speech recognition
services, it can be easily utilized for low-cost robotic projects in home environments. Thus, a mobile
robot platform (form factor of a robot vacuum cleaner) running the Robot Operating System (ROS)
should be equipped with a provider-agnostic interface to speech recognition services (cloud or
offline). The interface should be as flexible as possible to enable easy deployment of new interaction
models and functionalities for integration with ROS.
Team members will:
1) Setup and extend a rudimentary mobile platform running Linux with ROS and/or RSB
2) Develop a generalize speech recognition interface with the most common features
3) Develop and implement potential use-cases for a speech-enabled mobile robot platform
4) Cooperate with the teams VUMoR and HAIMoR to make use of synergies

Please note that the teams will be selected by the supervisors on the basis of short applications that students are expected to send to them. Registering to the project in the ekVV will only be regarded as expression of interest; it will not secure a team membership.
Please get in touch with the supervisors for information on the application procedure.

Student information

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
