Das Seminar strebt eine ‚integrierte’ Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus an, indem es die Geschichte der Tätergesellschaft und die Geschichte der Verfolgten berücksichtigt. Auf der Basis von Quellen und Sekundärtexten geht es z.B. um das intensive Engagement nichtjüdischer Deutscher für die NS-Gesellschaft, um Gewalt und ihre vielfältigen Motive, um die Entwicklungsschritte hin zur Shoah, um Handlungsoptionen jüdischer Deutscher, wenn man es so nennen will, sowie ihre Geschichte während der Vernichtung. Der Nationalsozialismus wird dabei nicht verstanden als ein in jeder Hinsicht klar abgrenzbarer Zeitraum, sondern als ein Teil der deutschen Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts, der aus langfristigen Phänomenen und kurzfristigen Entscheidungen resultierte und in sich als Prozess zu verstehen ist.
