Im Teil Grundoperationen werden die Verfahren zur Aufarbeitung biotechnischer Produkte präsentiert. Dies reicht von der Zellabtrennung bis zur chromatographischen Aufreinigung von Proteinen. Im Vordergrund stehen die Grundoperationen, die den Bedürfnissen der Biotechnologie in besonderer Weise entgegenkommen. Hierzu gehören insbesondere auch Membranprozesse und Extraktionsverfahren. In der Übung werden die theoretischen Grundlagen für das Praktikum Biotechnologie 4 gelegt.
