Das Seminar ist als Einführung in die Lyrik „um 1650“ konzipiert. Behandelt wird etwa der Zeitraum von 1620 bis 1770 (Barock, Frühaufklärung, Anakreontik, Empfindsamkeit/Sturm und Drang). Im Fokus stehen hierbei zwei historische Brüche: Zunächst der Dreißigjährige Krieg (1618-48) und die ihm zeitlich nahestehenden kulturhistorischen Ereignisse der Gründung der „Fruchtbringenden Gesellschaft“ in Weimar (1617) und die Veröffentlichung des Buches von der „Deutschen Poeterey“ von Martin Opitz (1624). Am Beispiel der erwähnten Zäsuren und durch die Thematisierung entsprechender „Trennereignissen“ erörtert die Veranstaltung das literaturgeschichtliche Konzept des Epochenumbruchs. Zunächst erarbeiten wir eine kultur- und diskursgeschichtliche Übersicht über den Zeitraum (Rhetorik, Emblematik, Politik, Recht, Bildung, Religion). Im Mittelpunkt steht aber die kontrastierende und vergleichende Interpretation ausgewählter lyrischer Texte. Es werden Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede, Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten hinsichtlich literarischer Form und Gestaltung, Motivverwendung, Wirklichkeitswahrnehmung usw. erkundet.
