300305 Rankings - soziologisch betrachtet (S) (WiSe 2016/2017)

Staaten, Schulen, Universitäten, Publikationen, Tennisspieler, Fußballclubs, Musiker, Künstler, Songs, Blogger und Verbrecher: Was „gerankt“ werden kann, so scheint es, wird auch gerankt. In der sozialwissenschaftlichen Literatur sind Rankings bisher häufig kritisiert, aber selten genauer untersucht worden. In dem Seminar wollen wir daher eine soziologische Perspektive auf Rankings einnehmen, die erst einmal genauer fragt, wie Rankings entstehen, was sie von anderen Kommunikations- und Evaluationsformen unterscheidet, in welchen Varianten es sie gibt, wie sie verbreitet werden, wie sie in soziale Prozesse und Beziehungen eingreifen und welche gewollten und ungewollten Effekte sie auslösen. Diese Fragen sollen an einer Reihe von empirischen Fallbeispielen gemeinsam entwickelt und diskutiert werden.
