The basis for this study group will be the book "The Creation of Patriarchy" by the American historian Gerda Lerner. The main question she answers in this book is how it was possible for men as a group to dominate women as a group over thousands of years.
So we will take this historical perspective on the establishment of patriarchal patterns in the building of civilization. The main aspects are for example the shift in societal structures from kin-based to class-based society, analysis of laws in Mesopotamian societies and the rise of monotheistic religions.
It is not necessary to buy the book. The texts will be provided.
Because there are only students in this study group, everyone will actively participate, for example by deciding on the structure of the sessions, choosing chapters from the book or other material (videos, talks etc.), taking part in and leading discussions, presenting further ideas, etc.

Die verbindlichen Modulbeschreibungen enthalten weitere Informationen, auch zu den "Leistungen" und ihren Anforderungen. Sind mehrere "Leistungsformen" möglich, entscheiden die jeweiligen Lehrenden darüber.
As this is a 'Studiengruppe' and involves only students, all participants will be actively involved at all levels, for example in choosing material, preparing short talks or leading discussions on theoretical texts, presenting analyses of specific material, deciding how to structure the sessions, etc. Students can gain 3 credit points for "Internationalisation at Home" by participating.
