Richard M. Hare (1919 - 2001) hat seine Theorie des moralischen Begründens in mehreren Büchern sukzessiv entwickelt. Im Seminar soll die Schrift "Moralisches Denken" behandelt werden - Hares letzte große Publikation, in der er zentrale Überlegungen aus "Die Sprache der Moral" und "Freiheit und Vernunft" fortführt.
Ein Schwerpunkt der Diskussion wird auf Hares metaethischer Position liegen, die in der Universalisierbarkeit und Präskriptivität wesentliche Merkmale moralischen Argumentierens sieht. Ferner soll sein Zwei-Ebenen-Modell der Moral, das zwischen einer intuitiven und einer kritischen Ebene des moralischen Urteilens unterscheidet, erörtert werden. Schließlich soll Hares Versuch, ausgehend von seinen Überlegungen zur Metaethik eine präferenzutilitaristische Konzeption zu begründen, einer eingehenden Prüfung unterzogen werden.
Das Seminar verfolgt das Ziel, grundlegende Kenntnisse der Moraltheorie Hares und der mit ihr verbundenen Probleme zu vermitteln.Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA- oder Master of Education-Studiengang) wird ein Portfolio (wird in der Veranstaltung bekannt gegeben) erwartet.
