Vergils Aeneis ist das Nationalepos der Römer. Verfasst in der Zeit des Augustus sollte es der neuen Ordnung eine ideologische Grundlage und eine an den Troiamythos anknüpfende, epische Rahmung verschaffen, die mit den homerischen Epen konkurrieren konnte. In Der Veranstaltung werden repräsentative Passagen (insbesondere das 6. Buch) übersetzt und mit Hilfe von Kommentaren und Sekundärliteratur interpretiert.
