In diesem einführenden Seminar werden zunächst unterschiedliche Theorien sozialer Ungleichheit behandelt. Die zentrale Frage, um die sich die verschiedenen Ansätze sozialer Ungleichheit drehen, lautet '(Un-)Gleichheit von was?'. Sind es die ungleichverteilten Ressourcen, gleiche Rechte oder gleiche Verwirklichungschancen, die als Maßstab von sozialer Ungleichheit herangezogen werden?
Vor dem Hintergrund dieser Diskussionen wird vertiefend auf den Zusammenhang von Gesundheit und Ungleichheiten (bei Kindern und Jugendlichen) sowie mit Hinblick auf heterogene Lebenslagen, Arbeit und Bildung, Geschlecht, und Migration eingegangen. Dabei soll u.a. vertieft diskutiert werden, was wir meinen, wenn wir über sozialen Ungleichheiten, Differenzierung oder Heterogenität sprechen.

Es sind keine Vorkenntnisse erforderlich. Das Seminar stellt eine Einführung in die Thematik dar. Einige wenige Texte werden in englischer Sprache zur Verfügung gestellt.

Die Studienleistung kann im Rahmen dieses Seminars in zwei Formen erbracht werden:
(a) Vorbereitung und Durchführung einer interaktiven Arbeitsphase zur Vertiefung und Aufbereitung des Grundlagentexts.
(b) Nachbereitung einer Seminarsitzung: Diskussionsprotokoll, Mind Map und Kurzinput zur Wiederholung in der folgenden Sitzung.
