In der ‚volksprachlichen‘ Tierepik des europäischen Mittelalters betritt statt des ‚mönchischen Wolfes‘ Reinhart Fuchs die Bühne (Wehrli 1969, 123). Seine Wurzeln liegen im altfranzösischen "Roman de Renart", der eine Tradition begründet, die vom hohen Mittelalter bis zu Goethes Versepos "Reineke Fuchs" (1794), welches auf der hochdeutschen Übersetzung (1752) durch Gottsched fußt, reicht. Daneben ist die Fuchsepik stets von einem ‚satirischen Charakter‘ durchzogen, sodass der Schwerpunkt des Seminars besonders auf der Beobachtung des Verhältnisses von Kritik und Ästhetik liegen wird. Im Zentrum werden dabei der mittelhochdeutsche "Reinhart Fuchs" und Goethes "Reineke Fuchs" stehen. Daher wird die Bereitschaft aller Teilnehmer/innen vorausgesetzt, auch Texte, die auf Mittelhochdeutsch verfasst sind, im Original zu lesen.
