Mit seinem Fokus auf die Verfasstheiten des Pädagogischen wird im Seminar eine der Grundfragen der modernen Pädagogik nach dem Kern, dem Wesen des Pädagogischen in den Mittelpunkt gerückt. Anknüpfend an Diskurse, die seit den 1990ern in der Erziehungswissenschaft hierzu geführt werden, geht es dabei vor allem um Fragen nach den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen dieses Vorhabens. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auf historisch wie gegenwärtig geführte allgemein-erziehungswissenschaftliche Debatten zur Bestimmung des Pädagogischen eingegangen und werden Versuche einer Empirie des Pädagogischen aufgegriffen, in deren Zusammenhang die Varianz des sog. Pädagogischen wie auch dessen konstitutive Historizität und Kulturalität deutlich wird.
