Wie in jeder anderen natürlichen Sprache lassen sich sprachliche Regularitäten und Phänomene auch im Gegenwartsdeutschen oft erst vor dem Hintergrund der historischen Entwicklung erklären. Unter Zugrundelegung dieser Annahme löst sich der (vermeintliche) Widerspruch zwischen Synchronie und Diachronie in der Sprachbetrachtung auf.
In dem Seminar werden sprachliche Erscheinungen und Regularitäten des Gegenwartsdeutschen aus diachroner Sicht betrachtet. Ausgehend vom Indogermanischen werden Entwicklungen auf den unterschiedlichen Beschreibungsebenen von Sprache nachgezeichnet - mit dem Ziel, zentrale Eigenschaften des Gegenwartsdeutschen insbesondere in den Bereichen Phonologie, Morphologie und Syntax besser verstehen und einordnen zu können.
