An economic system comprises various markets, and the labor market is one of them. According to UNECE, in developed countries the labor share of GDP reached 60-70\% in 2025, making the market a crucial component in shaping macroeconomic dynamics. This hands-on course covers both an introduction to STATA, with exercises based on various real-life datasets, and the main framework of modern macro labour economics – the Diamond-Mortensen-Pissarides approach- with some of the model’s findings reproduced empirically. The second part of the course focuses on the (impact) evaluation and its execution in STATA, with minimum wage policy in Germany as an example.
By the end of the course, students should gain insights into labor markets within the context of macroeconomic analysis and macro-level policy evaluation. Moreover, they should gain the fundamental skills for conducting independent empirical work in STATA.
