What does diversity mean in educational contexts, and how do social differences and power relations shape processes of learning, development, and social participation? This seminar introduces students to key concepts and debates with a particular focus on their relevance for educational theory and pedagogical practice. Students will engage with different forms of social inequality and discrimination and examine their implications for educational contexts. The seminar is based on the academic podcast ReSearching Diversity (freely available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other platforms). Drawing on selected episodes from Seasons 1–3, complemented by academic readings, students will explore foundational concepts and theoretical perspectives. These materials will serve as a basis for discussing contemporary societal developments and educational policy issues, while fostering connections between scholarly knowledge and educational practice.
The seminar emphasizes the collaborative exploration of central concepts, the critical reflection of individual assumptions and perspectives, and the application of research-informed insights to pedagogical contexts. By the end of the seminar, students will have developed a foundational understanding of diversity as a key dimension of educational processes and professional practice.
No prior knowledge is required. Students are expected to have an interest in social and educational issues and to participate actively in seminar discussions.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
The seminar provides opportunities for discussion, exchange, and the development of a reflective understanding of diversity and heterogeneous life situations in educational contexts.
