Die Veranstaltung bietet einen chronologischen Überblick über die deutsche Sozialgeschichte im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Im Fokus steht dabei die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Phänomen Ungleichheit über alle epochalen Brüche der deutschen Moderne hinweg. Damit wird als Strukturmerkmal die andauernde Pluralität deutscher Gesellschaften deutlich, die an Beispielen wie Demographie, Wohlstand, Klassenbildung, Geschlecht und Migration exemplarisch vertieft wird.
