This course explores how narratives addressing ethnic conflict intersect with the medical humanities and reconciliation. We will read a range of different conflict narratives by applying theoretical frameworks from literary studies and narrative medicine. Central will be the question of how to approach and understand trauma in narrative with the help of medical practice and knowledge. Key themes will include the core ideas of narrative medicine, narrative competence, encounters of care, and the role of literature in medicine and reconciliation.
