230307 Language Processing in a Second Language (S) (WiSe 2026/2027)

Contents, comment

Language production and comprehension in a second language (L2) can be challenging for L2 learners. Especially when grammatical systems diverge, there is reason to expect L2 learner difficulties due to transfer effects from the L1. This course offers an introduction to models of L2 processing and will apply them to a case study closely looking into a linguistic phenomenon with great crosslinguistic variation - the pronominal systems of German and other languages. As part of the course work, we will develop and conduct a psycholinguistic study on the L2 processing of pronouns. This will include all steps from the development of the study design, implementation as an experiment, data acquisition and analysis and reporting of the study.
