Die geplante Lehrveranstaltung schließt an Niklas Luhmanns Buch über Vertrauen an. Die sorgfältige Diskussion seiner Argumente dient ihr jedoch nicht als Selbstzweck. Geplant ist vielmehr, den Text über Vertrauen nach Anregungen zu durchsuchen, die sich beim Aufbau einer Soziologie des Misstrauens bewähren könnten, die sich dann ihrerseits an aktuellen Phänomenen wie etwa dem der Verschwörungstheorien zu bewähren hätte.
