Ziele, Lehrformen, Leistungsanforderungen:
Die Veranstaltung bietet einen Überblick über Probleme neuzeitiger Stadtentwicklung aus sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive. Dabei wird der Akzent auf die Analyse und Reflektion latenter und manifester sozialer Konflikte, einschließlich des historischen und aktuellen Hintergrunds normativer Leitbilder, gelegt. Wo es möglich ist, sollen an empirischen Beispielen historische und transnationale Vergleiche angestellt werden. Als Arbeitsformen sind Referate mit Diskussion, Einzelarbeit sowie Kleingruppenarbeit vorgesehen.
Bei regelmäßiger Teilnahme werden bei einem Referat 3, bei einer Hausarbeit 4 Credit-Points vergeben.Veranstaltungsplan:

3. Die Industriestadt
4. Wohnen im frühen Industriezeitalter
5. Reformbewegung im Städtebau I: Industriedorf und Gartenstadtidee
6. Reformbewegung im Städtebau II: Charta von Athen, das Konzept der "gegliederten und aufgelockerten Stadt" und Großwohnquartiere am Stadtrand
7. Die antike Stadt
8. Die orientalische Stadt
9. Soziale Segregation in Städten
10. Ökologischer Stadtumbau
