This seminar pursues a transdisciplinary approach to countercultures in the U.S. and Mexico. Departing from historical and theoretical accounts of ‘counterculture’ as social, cultural and political phenomenon we will read and discuss texts from the Beat Generation, the Hippie Generation, the Black Arts Movement and the Mexican counterculture with a focus on the 1960s and 1970s in particular. Within the course program there will be two 4 hour sessions, one on Saturday June 4, and one June 11 (9-13) that will be conducted by professor. Raussert and visiting professor Solís with a special focus on the exchange and interrelation between U.S. and Mexican countercultures.
