Ekphrastic writing is creative writing that uses a work of (usually visual) art as its starting point, so we will be looking at a lot of - sometimes astonishing - pictures and also reading some ekphrastic writing in class.
This course is aimed at anyone who enjoys writing creatively in English, or would like to try it out. Doing creative writing does not mean you have to be an especially "creative" person - it is simply a kind of writing you do for the joy of experimenting with language, to express yourself and create something enjoyable for its own sake. It is immersive, liberating, and often helps you become a better academic writer as well. Expressing your ideas in English is also highly beneficial for your English skills in general.
No placement test is required for this course. However, a minimum level of B2 is suggested.

For credit in this class, please attend regularly and be prepared to WRITE - a lot - in class. You should also participate in discussions, brainstorming, feedback on how you approached the writing tasks and be prepared to share your writing from time to time.
You will be required to submit a portfolio of at least TEN pieces of writing, consisting of your first draft (usually what you wrote during the class session) and an edited, reworked polished version. Please note that FSZ seminars only run for 13 weeks.
