From Instagram posts, blogs, forum threads and Wikis to A.I. texts, subtitled videos and fanfiction – digital textualities include completely new genres, vocabulary, modes of production and reception and thus require new analytical and didactic approaches. This seminar explores the types of formats the digital realm has to offer and asks which collaborative activities, tasks, and assessment formats can be used to work with them. Working with theoretical concepts of critical media literacy, digital literacies, and multiliteracies, we will investigate what it means to be a digitally competent English language teacher in a rapidly changing world. Participants are required to read and research digital texts and secondary literature for each session, and engage in collaborative text production in group and individual work in online Zoom sessions every week.
