The rules for job applicants in academia are different from those applying for jobs in other fields. How should an application package look like? How should I dress for the interview? Which key skills acquired during my study or dissertation years should be highlighted? How do I present myself during the interview and what type of questions should I expect?

At the beginning, the seminar will mainly focus on the period prior to the job interview. Participants will identify which job formats might be suitable for them. Moreover, they learn the specifics about the written application (e.g., letter of interest, curriculum vitae, list of publications, research profile), particularly with regard to the German academic sector. Subsequently, the seminar will concentrate on the job interview and the academic job talk. Participants will learn how to prepare optimally for the interview or the oral presentation. We use realistic scenarios to equip participants with knowledge, strategies and confidence for their job application process in the German academic system.

Methods:

Day 1 of the seminar will take place as a workshop. Day 2 is dedicated to individual coaching sessions for the participants (duration about 1 hour, individual appointments will be made). Participants are welcome to bring their written application documents to the individual coaching session for a careful analysis.
