CLIL – Content and Language Integrated Learning in Primary School Education.

To further develop and strengthen English competences in primary school education, CLIL – Content and Language Integrated Learning – offers the pupils a valuable opportunity to put the English they are learning into practice and to acquire additional language competences with various references to real life.

CLIL can be part of the primary school education either in projects in the English classroom or in modules in different subjects – e.g. maths, science, arts and PE. In contrast to regular English lessons, in CLIL classes primary school children to learn the language through action, activities and experiments, discovering processes and phenomena which are meaningful to them and which thus make the language easier for them to internalise. Although regular English lessons do often contain these aspects too, by including CLIL, a deeper understanding of language and content knowledge is possible and different learning styles and interests are addressed.
