230193 Middle English (S) (SoSe 2026)

In this course we'll take a closer at the time period between 1066 and 1500. This means that we'll look at the demographic make-up of and change in society, the role of the church and monarchy, which all set the background for and influenced linguistic change. We will look at Middle English grammar and phonology and work on numerous exercises, but will also look more closely at literary texts (for example, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales) and discuss in what ways the authors used English.

Notwendige Voraussetzungen: FsB vom 15.11.2023 (Einschreibung ab SoSe 2023)
Vor dem Besuch der Veranstaltungen in den Profilmodulen muss der Language Proficiency Test (23-ANG-Basis1) bestanden sein. Im Master of Education gilt diese Voraussetzung mit dem erfolgreichen Masterzugang als erbracht.
