Contents, comment

The aim of this course is to become familiar with concepts and methods used to study animal behavior. Basic principles in animal behavior will be exemplified by focusing on animal communication which is central in social behavior and as such provides key systems to address basic questions on mechanisms of information processing, sexual selection, speciation, and other topics in animal behavior. Focus of practical projects will be on acoustic communication and on mate choice. Experiments will be conducted in lab and in the field, using song birds and small mammals as study objects. Students will work in small groups. Requirements: active participation, regular attendance, lab report, short oral presentation of a scientific paper. The course will be taught in English and also is open for Diplom students.
