Anhand von Biografien wird schon lange Geschichte erklärt und erzählt. Biografien, nicht nur mehr die ‚großer Männer‘, sind populär. Aber viele Biografien stellen den Lebenslauf einer Person als Entwicklungsgeschichte dar und produzieren auf diese Weise überhaupt erst Identität. In der wissenschaftlichen Debatte um Biografik wird stattdessen der Konstruktionscharakter biografischer Identität stärker berücksichtigt und kaum noch von einer Kohärenz eines Lebenslaufes ausgegangen: Welche Prägungen durch Gesellschaft und Diskurs hat eine Person erfahren? Welches Verhalten kann der Individualität, welches den Dispositionen zugeschrieben werden?
In diesem Grundseminar Theorie diskutieren wir, welche neuen Ansätze die Biografie als Genre der Geschichtswissenschaft erweitern, z.B. postkoloniale oder feministische Biografik, Graphic Novels und multimediale Darstellungsformen.
