Im Kontext der sozial- und psychogerontologischen Diskurse werden zunächst moderne Atlersbilder und ihre Entwicklungslinien bearbeitet. Ebenso ist die Diskussion zur Zukunft der Generationen Gegenstand des vorliegenden Seminars. Ausgewählte Aspekte wie Altenfeindlichkeit, Hochaltrigkeit, Demenz, Neubestimmung der Altersarbeit sind ebenso Gegenstand des Seminars. Diskutiert wird der Wandel der Altersleitbilder von der Modernisierung im Sinne des "Unruhestandes" über die Debatte zur Produktivität des Alters bis hin zur Hochaltrigkeitsdebatte heute. Der Seminar vermittelt historische Entwicklungen der Altersbilder auch im größeren historischen Zusammenhang.
