Goethe gilt als bedeutendster deutscher Dichter. In seinem Namen betreiben Institute auswärtige Kulturpolitik. Eine der wichtigsten deutschen Kulturepochen ist nach seiner Schaffensphase (1770-1830) benannt. Wichtige Auszeichnungen und Preise tragen seinen Namen. Seine Wirkungsstätten in Weimar ziehen interessierte Touristen aus aller Welt an. Worauf gründet der Ruhm dieses Autors, der nicht nur Schriftsteller, sondern auch Minister und Naturwissenschaftler war? Dieser Frage will das Seminar am Beispiel ausgewählter Werke aus verschiedenen Schaffensperioden nachgehen. Dabei kommt auch dem historischen Kontext (Sozial-, Ideen- und Literaturgeschichte) eine große Beachtung bei. – Die Lehrveranstaltung wendet sich speziell an DaF-Studierende.

Zur Anschaffung und vorherigen Lektüre empfohlen werden folgende Werke Goethes:

Faust I;
West-östlicher Divan.
