(in engl. Sprache)
This colloquium assembles a number of speakers from the University of Bielefeld and other universities to present new perspectives on development research. Ever since the end of the Cold War German development research has been in crisis since foreign and international policy priorities have shifted in various ways. The age of development, initiated by President Truman in 1947, is at the cross-roads. Therefore, there is a dire need to reassess the field of development sociology. The presenters will deal, among others, with issues such as gender relations and development, the development research policy of state institutions, multiculturalism in European cities, and the emergence of global rules regarding world trade.
This research seminar aims at advanced students in the social sciences, who have some prior experience in the sociology of development and of social anthropology, doctoral students at the International Graduate School in Sociology (IGSS) and the members of the Research Centre on Transnationalization and Development.
