Der Titel ist wörtlich gemeint: Wir lesen und besprechen drei wichtige, exemplarische Dramen der Frühen Neuzeit „Zeile für Zeile“: Shakespeares ‚Richard III.‘, Racines ‚Phèdre‘ und Gryphius‘ ‚Papinianus‘. Man kann das Drama des 18. Jahrhunderts nicht wirklich und intensiv verstehen, wenn man vom Drama des 17. Jahrhunderts keine Ahnung hat. Das ist die leitende These, die das Seminar auch überprüfen wird.

Die Lektüre soll durch die Verwendung der Übersetzung von Schlegel/Tieck (Shakespeare) und der Schillers (Racine) erleichtert werden. Daneben werden wir natürlich auch den Originaltext heranziehen.
